A Paper Lily of the Valley for May - let's go step by step on how to make this unique and beautiful flower.

The lily of the valley is such a fun flower and I am not going to lie I was a little intimidated by it at first. But after many trials and different variations, I finally created an SVG file that I liked and I am able to teach you how to create a paper lily of the valley flower. I hope you enjoy this one!

I will be back later this month with a second flower for may called Hawthorne!

Materials and Tools Needed:

  • Cardstock Paper - I used white and yellow
  • Floral wire - I used 18 gauge floral wire but I suggest something thinner honestly and in my video I was mistaken, I figured smaller numbers were thinner. But alas, the larger the gauge the thinner. I would go with this set for floral wire, cutters, and tape!
  • Floral tape - this was my first true go with floral tape as a main material and I don't love it! But it does the job.
  • Hot glue or craft glue or both - hot glue feels necessary more so than craft glue since we need to attach the paper to the floral wire
  • Ball tools or something very small to shape the petals
  • A foam sheet or a flower foam shape pad (I just use a foam sheet folded over on itself)
  • Scissors to cut your floral wire or wire cutters!
  • A Cricut or a Silhouette machine to cut out the pattern
  • Tweezers - these are helpful for assembly and for extending the hole in the center of the flower for the tiny stem.

Cricut Design Space Set Up

This set up is quick - keep in mind it's one flower set and you can multiple as needed. A real lily of the valley flower has about 5-10 tiny flowers per grouping. I did 5 on mine but think it would look great doubled up next to each other.

In Cricut you will ungroup twice so you have three pieces - the square, the yellow center and the flower petal. The flower petal has additional cuts that you will attach with the paperclip button in the bottom right corner.

For sizing, the flower part should be about 1.5 inches wide which will give you a .5 inch flower (which is slightly larger than a real lilly of the valley). If you want to resize make sure to resize the whole flower SVG file.

Once you have attached you can send to cut, I adjusted the amount of flowers over in the make section in the top right hand corner of Cricut Design Space.

I cut my flowers out using the medium cardstock setting.

Silhouette Studio Set Up

This is pretty easy. Again, resize if needed but the 1.5 will make a .5 inch flower. Then duplicate as you need! You can ungroup so the petal, center, and square are all separate by right clicking on the SVG file.

You can work in Simple or Line when sending and I just pulled the yellow center off the cut screen. Make sure to keep the cut lines on top of the lily of the valley petal piece.

Always test your settings, I find myself upping my blade depth and passes a lot for my Silhouette machines.

Assembly of the Paper Lily of the Valley

Step 1: Shape the Petals

I first used the smallest ball tool to shape the bottom of the petals on the edge.

Then I flipped it over and rounded the center and the middle of the petals.

Step 2: Round the Yellow Center

This is a tiny center for tiny flowers, so I just used that ball tool and pressed it into the center to round it up.

Step 3: Shape the Stem

I used a bone tool for the beginning but you can also just use your fingers to give a curve. You will want stems of all different lengths to make a stair-like pattern for your flowers.

Step 4: Attach the Flower Pieces

First, slide your petals on. You may need to extend your hole in the middle of your lily of the valley flower with a pair os tweezers. You can fix the shape after you slide it on.

Next, extend the center of the yellow piece if you need then use your tweezers to help place this onto the floral wire.

Next, roll the square up with your tweezers to form a cylinder. Add hot glue to the tip of one end and slide this over the end of the floral wire.

Step 5: Attach all the Lily of the Valley Flowers with Floral Tape

I just wrapped the best I could with the floral tape from the bottom up and I worked in sections. I do not love to work with floral tape but to make it look cohesive, it definitely is the way to go.

You can add as many as you would like to this and truly make it your own. I believe lily of the valley flowers tend to be white but at the end of the day they are your flowers. Have a baby shower coming up? Make them blue and pink and yellow. A wedding? Use them as a filler flower! They truly are such a beautiful unique flower.

This was definitely one of the hardest templates for me to make and I am so happy to share it with you.
