Are you a fan of patriotic crafts? Do you own a Cricut machine and love creating intricate designs? In this tutorial, we will show you how to make a stunning layered mandala paper craft featuring the United States of America flag using your Cricut.

I'll guide you through the process, providing helpful tips and utilizing a free USA flag SVG file, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable crafting experience. Let's dive in and unleash your creativity while celebrating the red, white, and blue!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before we start, make sure you have the necessary materials on hand. Here's what you'll need:

  • Cricut machine
  • Cutting mats - I suggest multiple if possible!
  • Cardstock in various colors - I used red, white, and blue in textured and glitter!
  • Adhesive - I suggest foam tape but you can also use craft glue. I am using cubies by Bearly Arts. I use both the strips and the cubes. Foam tape also comes in all sorts of heights so keep in mind how this will affect your project.

Step 3: Customize and Arrange the Design

Once the SVG file is added to your canvas, you can customize it to suit your preferences. Adjust the size of the design if necessary. I cut mine to about 8 inches wide so it would fit into an 8x8 shadowbox. You can also experiment with different colors for the mandala layers to add a personal touch to your creation. Since this is a patriotic themed SVG file, I kept mine red white and blue!

Step 4: Prepare and Cut the Cardstock

Place the cardstock onto your cutting mat, ensuring it is smooth and free from wrinkles. Load the mat into your Cricut machine and follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the cutting process. Make sure you select the appropriate material settings for cardstock to achieve clean and precise cuts. I almost always cut my cardstock on medium cardstock setting on fast mode. Please do test cuts if you are uncertain. Your pressure and blade are different than mine!

Step 5: Assemble the Layers

Once the cutting is complete, carefully remove the cardstock from the cutting mat. Use a weeding tool or tweezers to remove any excess paper or intricate details from the design. Take your time to avoid damaging delicate pieces.

Next, layer the different cardstock pieces to create the desired 3D effect. Working from the bottom up, layer them first before using your tape or glue. Apply adhesive on the next piece to be laid this way you can work around any holes in the paper - be as generous as you can) to each layer and align them according to the design. Press gently to secure the layers together, working from the bottom up. You can also use glue but keep in mind the 3D effect will be lessened.

Step 6: Add Finishing Touches

Once all the layers are assembled, step back and admire your beautiful USA flag layered mandala paper craft. You can choose to frame it, mount it on a canvas, or use it as a centerpiece for your patriotic celebrations. Let your creativity shine! My shadowbox doesn't have glass in it right now so I am working from the front!
